Accepted Materials
Keep it Clean and Separated!
Please properly prepare and separate each of the following materials before you bring them to the center. Remain in your vehicle. Unloaders will inspect and unload your recyclables as quickly as possible. We ask recyclers who are non members for a $3.00 donation per vehicle.
- Newspaper
Separate newspapers and remove glossy inserts (such as coupons), advertisements, and Sunday magazine, place in a separate bag, and recycle it with junk mail. Keep papers clean and dry.
- Sorted Office Paper
Includes colored and white copy paper, typing, computer, white bond letterhead, ditto and memo paper. Place in grocery bag or sturdy box. No window envelopes. If you are not sure whether the paper is office grade, then recycle with junk mail.
- Mixed Office Paper/Junk Mail/ Magazines
Includes children's lined writing paper, paperboard, junk mail, envelopes, soft-cover books, and other lower grades of paper. You do not need to remove the plastic windows from envelopes. No gift wrap. Magazines and glossy inserts found inside newspapers are included in this category: Examples of glossy inserts are coupons, advertisement magazines, and one-page flyers. They are different from newsprint because they have a shiny coating. Magazines must be glossy all the way through. Magazines made of newsprint should be put in with newspapers, with any glossy pages removed. (ex. Marketeer and TV Guides)
- Corrugated Cardboard and Boxboard
Includes all cardboard that is constructed with corrugated grooves, cereal and kleenex boxes, gift boxes, pop & beer containers, etc. Remove the inner plastic sleeves from cereal and Kleenex boxes. Flatten. No wax-coated containers, paper plates, cups, napkins, or paper towels. No refrigerated food container such as milk, oleo, ice cream or frozen food cartons. Please size cardboard in pieces no bigger than 28' X 55" in order to accommodate our equipment.
- Telephone and Text Books
Includes hard-cover books as well as telephone books. Keep separated from other paper materials. Soft-cover books go in the Mixed Office Paper.
- Glass
We accept only clear and brown glass. NO GREEN OR BLUE GLASS. Wash glass bottles and jars. Kitchen glasses are acceptable but must not be leaded glass. Remove all metal rings and caps. You do not have to remove paper labels. No window, auto, perfume bottles, or Pyrex glass.
- Metals
Tin cans, jar lids, metal scrap, and aluminum. Wash, remove the labels, and flatten cans.
- Polystyrene Foam
Includes meat trays, foam cups, clam shells. Please rinse them clean. Bundle large amounts in clear plastic bags for easy handling. We cannot accept styrofoam packaging peanuts. Please take these to any UPS shipping outlet for reuse.
- Plastics
We accept any plastic object marked #1 through #7. Wash thoroughly and crush flat. No hazardous containers such as motor oil, antifreeze, or pool acids. Please put #6 Styrofoam in a separate bag. Please put translucent #2 bottles such as milk jugs in a separate bag. Lids can remain on or off the bottles. No fast food lids or straws
#2 Translucent (HDPE) containers: example: milk jugs, water, distilled or spring water, Dawn dishwashing liquid
#1 through #7 plastics:
Examples:- #1 clear soda bottles, water and juice bottles
- #2 liquid detergent, shampoo, fabric softener, bleach bottles. You can include the lids.
- #3 PVC pipes
- #4 squeezable honey and mustard bottles, toys
- #5 butter tubs, medicine bottles, caps
- #6 CD cases, polystyrene foam *** Pack foam in a separate bag for the foam trailer ***
- #7 some catsup bottles, iced tea or juice bottles.
We accept clean, dry, plastic bags (#2 and #4) from grocery stores and retailers. Can be any color except black.
We accept the plastic 6 or 8-pack rings from beverages container packs.
- Printer Cartridges
We recycle computer ink jet and laser cartridges. Please keep them separate from other recyclables and bring them directly to the recycling site.
- Batteries
In conjunction with Livingston County, we can collect all sizes of household batteries, lithium, or hearing aid batteries. No car batteries.
- Electronics Recycling
Recycle Livingston accepts a wide range of electronics for recycling. Please be careful not to bring broken TV screens or monitors for recycling. Recycle Livingston is not responsible for data. Below please please find a list of what we accept. We do not accept any items such as window air conditioners and dehumidifiers containing freon. We may accept things that are not on the list. If you have any questions, please give us a call.
